Dry needling

Approaching Muscles With Precision

Dry needling is an effective addition to the toolset of a clinician and can be used in a wide range of settings such as trigger points, neural, muscular and connective tissue stimulation. It involves the precise insertion of a fine needle, without any medication (hence the term dry), directly into a trigger point responsible for the current symptoms. Dry Needling helps release muscle tension, improves local blood flow, and reduces inflammatory responses. The Swiss Dry Needling Association ensures that only people who have successfully completed the necessary training are also allowed to complete the qualification exam. Currently the training can be completed by osteopaths, physiotherapists and medical doctors.

Practiced in Switzerland since 1996, this technique is carried out by trained medical professionals under strict hygienic conditions. Thin, sterile, single-use acupuncture needles are used, though the method is distinct from traditional acupuncture. While the needle insertion is usually painless, hitting a trigger point may cause the muscle to contract briefly and noticeably - a response known as a "local twitch response."

Although this twitch response might feel uncomfortable, it is essential for achieving the most effective treatment results in intramuscular stimulation (IMS). Some patients may also experience mild, muscle-soreness-like sensations for a few days following the procedure.

At Osteopathie Seebach, we always assess the necessity and benefits of possible interventions with our patients. We take our time to explain the intervention and help you to come to a decision which intervention suits you most in the current situation. Your choice of interventions might differ depending on how you feel on any given day. Only because you agreed to an intervention during a consultation, doesn't mean, that it has to be applied during the next consultation.

We are always happy to adjust your treatment plan according to your wishes and look forward to welcoming you in Zurich Seebach.
